Palo Verde Nationale Park
Palo Verde is the National Park for waterfowl enthusiasts. The 16,000 hectare park has freshwater and saltwater marshes, lagoons and canals formed by the delta of the Rio Tempisque and the Rio Bebedero. These areas, which regularly flood, change strongly in the course of the year. The park, which has a surprisingly high ecological diversity, is named after the palo verde (horse tree), which grows in the remaining tropical dry forest. At the main entrance, south of Bagaces, is the research station of the OTS (Organization for Tropical Studies).
